women in management

I haven't yet personally participated in women's fight for the equal rights, but I do support it. Even the laws like "30% of management should be women." I think equal rights are fair. But "fair" is a moral argument and therefore not very persuasive. However recently a colleague has shared with me an article that shifts the focus from fairness to benefit.

Here's an example for you. Imagine a board of directors that consists of five white men closer to 50. Even their lifestyles can easily be similar. Then one of them comes up with an idea that is very good for the business but doesn't fit well into their common way of thinking. What do you expect, what are the chances that this man will go "against the team"?

And really even scientific papers prove that higher diversity in the group results in higher creativity and effectiveness. It's not about the morals actually, it's about benefit for the company in modern competitive markets. I think this argument is much more compelling.
